About Fullerton:Fullerton Homes for Sale

Fullerton, California is a medium-sized city with a big history steeped in Americana. Located in the middle of growing and affluent Orange County, it is part college town, part agricultural center, and has been the home of some big names in a variety of industries. Though the current population is 135,161 and growing, it began its life in 1887 as a stop on the Santa Fe railroad; the town grew up around the depot.

Prosperity really began in 1894 when Charles Chapman, a descendent of folktale legend Johnny Appleseed, bought some acreage outside of town and planted Valencia oranges, a variety which flourished in the hospitable, Mediterranean climate. At one time, Fullerton had more orange groves than any other city in the United States.

Aside from its agricultural history, Fullerton has been a major industrial center and even saw a short boom when Brea-Olinda Oil Field was discovered in the 1880's. It was also home to the creators of Hawaiian Punch and the Fender Telecaster, which were both invented in Fullerton. It is the current location of ConAgra Foods and a division of the Hughes Aircraft Company, which is located in a 293-acre complex in the western section of the city.

Historic places of interest include the Fox Fullerton Theater, the Plummer Auditorium and clock tower, the Old Spaghetti Factory, and the original Santa Fe depot. In addition, there are a variety of cultural centers, museums, and gardens to enjoy. One garden of note is the the Fullerton Arboretum, which is adjacent to the Fullerton University campus.

The downtown area is teeming with fine dining and shopping opportunities for every taste and budget. The southern area of downtown Fullerton is alive with a rich diversity of musical venues that make the city truly come to life at night. In an area known locally as the SOCO district, residents and visitors can find anything from ethnic eateries to smokey jazz clubs and just about everything in between. The area has been dubbed 'the Bourbon Street of the West' and it is a district that is infused with a funky, eclectic, and artsy flavor.

Fullerton's history and college town atmosphere make it both ethnically and financially diverse, with people of all backgrounds and incomes levels residing happily in close proximity. Residents, on average, have a high education level, with 38 percent obtaining at least a bachelor's degree. Current employment leans toward the tech and service industries, as well as professional fields.

The majority of homes are three-bedroom, single-family homes and the population is almost equally split between home owners and renters. The median value for a single-family home is about $517,609. The downtown area features housing that ranges from moderately-priced apartments and lofts to luxury high-rises.

Overall, Fullerton is a unique and diverse blend of the best of everything you would want from a city of its size: a modern, interesting urban center surrounded by family-friendly neighborhoods, affordable living with all of the amenities, and a centralized location that provides access to all of the best that Southern California has to offer.
